Posted by Shobini Kupper | March 7, 2012

The Prime Minister’s Innovation Award (AIPM) was introduced in 2010 as the premier public sector awards. The AIPM is a prestigious recognition based on significant innovations and have high impact to the governance and public sector services. AIPM enables the Government to recognise innovations that contribute to the high-income economy.

Participation of the AIPM is made through a process of nomination by a Search Committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary. The members of Search Committee include the top government officials and prominent individuals from the private sector, academia and non-governmental organisations. The role of the Search Committee is to ensure that only the most qualified candidates are shortlisted for AIPM.

The AIPM evaluation criteria covers four main aspects (Appendix A) which emphasise the outcome and impact of an innovation as follows:

         i.            Innovative – shows innovative features such that the implementation methods or experiments are truly leading edge, comprehensive organisational change or effective mobilisation of technology;

       ii.            Relevance – shows the changes which are consistent with the national agenda such as contributions to the high value added economic development, significant cost savings to the government operations, significant government revenue generation, unique collaboration with the people, effective nation building efforts and others;

      iii.            Significant – shows the significant and high impact outcome or potential outcome whether at local, national or even global; and

     iv.            Effectiveness – shows real benefits of a sustainable outcome and covers a period of time that clearly demonstrates its effectiveness.

Elements of collaboration and engagement with various stakeholders in terms of innovation should be emphasised.

AIPM can be awarded to the category of agency/organisation, individual or civil servants team. Only one winner will be chosen for AIPM. Commensurate with the level of AIPM as a prestigious award, the AIPM’s winner will be rewarded a cash prize of RM1 million.

MEF invites members to submit their nomination of the potential Government agency or individual public sector employee to be considered as the recipient for the AIPM 2011 Award based on any interaction and collaboration of services provided by the Government agency or individual public sector to your organisation.
