BERJAYA University College of Hospitality (BERJAYA UCH) and Gastronomic Educational Centre Koblenz EV (GBZ); which is an institution under the Chamber of Commerce Koblenz, Germany entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on 9 January 2012. The purpose of the signing is for both parties to establish a closer working relationship through collaborating in different areas of mutual interests. The areas include student and staff exchange, academic cooperation in teaching and learning methodologies, academic training and skills development support.

The significant signing of the MoU was witnessed by Alexander Stedtfeld, Executive Director of Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC). Mdm Mae Ho, Chief Operating Officer of BERJAYA UCH, is confident that this mutual agreement will uplift the standards of Culinary Arts in the country. “We are more than happy to have GBZ as one of our esteemed academic partners. The elements of goodwill corporations will definitely bring greater success to both parties,” exclaimed Mdm Mae Ho as she foresees a huge target market due to the large educational needs in Culinary Arts present along with a growing Culinary Arts industry here in Malaysia.

“The signing of today’s MoU will definitely provide a better future to Malaysia’s culinary arts industry,” said Alexander Stedtfeld. “There are so many passionate and talented chefs in Malaysia who, through this vocational system of GBZ, will be guided to a more successful career in the culinary arts industry,” he added.

Secret Santa, a fusion of Malaysian-German delicacies, tea-light candles strewn with whiffs of lavender infused scent, freshly grilled and barbequed meat and seafood for the carnivorous crowd was the highlights for MGCC staff just two weeks shy of the Christmas holiday season. In the background setting of the luscious greenery on the hilltop of Damansara Heights, MGCC’s staff Year End BQQ dinner party took off with a dash of KL monsoon drizzle and the evening breeze.

The evening begun with MGCC’s executive director, Mr Alexander Stedtfeld expressing his gratitude to all present for their support of the chamber throughout the year despite the minor setback and hiccups that occurred in the final quarter of the year. On a positive note, he said that he was looking forward to a more prosperous year in 2012.

As the evening wore on, the chefs fired up their grills to prepare a succulent dinner comprising grilled fish, “Norderneyer” Kebabs, “Puten Schaschlik” with the sweetness of pineapple cubes, chicken ala “Percik” and homemade German sausages. To sweeten the palate, “Rote Gruetze” topped with a dollop of Bavarian cream was served to the much satiated party.

In line with the Christmas spirit, exchange of gifts between staff was the finale for the night. Unlike the age-old tradition of presents placed under the Christmas tree, gifts abound of different shapes and sizes in colourful array was placed on a table in the vicinity of the buffet line to tantalize staff during the course of dinner. Gift numbers were drawn, followed by matching gifts doled out by Santa’s helpers. Much to the surprise and amusement of staff, the local king of fruits “Durian” was found amongst Secret Santa’s gifts!

It was definitely a cozy gathering for the MGCC family and for that we are utmost grateful to Mr. Stedtfeld, his family and not forgetting our colleague Simone and MGCC’s trainees for hosting & organizing the dinner.
